That's the residential energy credit. Did you buy any appliances or make any improvements to your home during 2009 that qualified you for this credit?
By Slappy McStretchNuts on May 10, 2010
1. If you qualify, a tax credit is either (a) added to the amount of the refund that you would otherwise receive , or (b) sent separately. In either case, the total amount that you receive would be the amount that you would have received without the credit plus the amount of the credit.
2. FEDERAL tax credits are NEVER claimed as taxable income. (A refund resulting from a STATE tax credit may be taxable under certain circumstances.)

First I've heard of a Credit Card Garnishing wages, I had my student load company Garnish my wages years ago. I thought only Government agency's could do that.

First, people are generally confused about the tax code. (which is understandable – since it is hard to believe they did not make it intentionally confusing).
Because of this, many people may have missed the $400/$800 credit just about everyone should have received – (schedule M) or things like additional deductions for sales tax on cars.
Second, a lot of local taxes went up.
But your are 100% correct – federal income taxes were down last year & depending on if you think that is good or bad – Obama should get the credit for it.

The support test for a Qualifying Child is that the child not provide more than half of their OWN support. Contrary to what several others here claim, YOU do NOT have to provide more than half of his support! That rule was tossed several years ago.
This much income COULD affect things. There's a support worksheet on page 20 of IRS Pub 501 http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p501.pdf . Sit down with your son and fill it out and you will know if he provided more than half of his own support and whether or not you can claim him.
Either way he MUST file a return as his income is well above the filing requirement amount whether he can be claimed as a dependent or not.

As far as why your boyfriend gets back more than you, I don't know the answer to that.
Why don't you do it online yourself at TaxAct or TurboTax if your father is taking over 3 months? It sounds like you have a simple return and it will not take you more than 30 minutes to do it yourself.
I don't understand how he can refuse to let you or somebody else do YOUR own taxes……..

That is correct you get 7,500 over your original refund. Keep in mind you have to pay back the 7,500 over a 15 year period starting two years after you claim this credit, so that means 2 years from now you would receive 500 a year less for 15 years.
