Centerville stone supplier awarded $1.75M verdict
A Centerville company has been awarded more than $1.7 million in a lawsuit.
A U.S. district court has awarded $1.75 million in damages to Centerville-based Marble Dimensions Worldwide in a judgment against its former customer Home Casual LLC.
Following an almost three-week trial, a jury found that Fitchburg, Wis.-based Home Casual had developed an unlawful relationship with a Marble Dimensions supplier in China that interfered with the one Marble Dimensions had established, according to Dayton-based law firm Sebaly Shillito + Dyer, which represented Marble Dimensions.
The jury ordered Home Casual to pay $1.5 million in compensatory damages and $250,000 in punitive damages. The company also must pay attorneys fees for Marble Dimensions, which will be determined separately by the court.
Marble Dimensions designs and supplies natural stone, hammered metal and faux products to U.S. furniture-makers and others. The family-owned business is one of the largest designers and suppliers of table tops for the U.S. outdoor furniture industry. Home Casual owns Plantation Patterns Furniture Co. and numerous brands, including Tommy Bahama.
“The verdict is a strong message that citizens of Southwest Ohio expect businesses and their executives to act with integrity,” said Toby Henderson, lead trial lawyer of the case from Sebaly Shilito + Dyer.
Dianne Marx of the firm also represented the client in the case.
