Choosing Your Kid’s Dresser Is No Child’s Play
Have you ever pestered your kids to clean up all the clutter in their rooms? You can imagine what the bedrooms in your house would look like without a dressing table near the bed. They come in handy since the drawers are versatile enough to store almost anything. They can also serve as extra spaces to store the things you pick up during the morning rush. Although you seldom need new furniture, adding new rooms in the house creates space for them. If you’re renovating a room to accommodate an adolescent child, you’ll still have to consider his or her safety. You can start with the furnishing. This could probably be the last time you’ll have the opportunity to decide on how your child’s room should look like. College is right around the corner, and your child will have to pass the room on to a younger sibling soon enough.
Some drawers are built with your child’s safety in mind. You should look for these features before you make your choice. It wouldn’t be wise to use cabinets and old heirlooms as furniture in your child’s room. It could be too tall, and the edges aren’t child friendly. Don’t choose drawers that tower over your child’s height. Half-open drawers can lead to injuries, especially if the child inadvertently hits his or her head on the topmost shelf. Some drawers are manufactured with discreet locks, assuring a parent that they stay closed. You should have these built into your drawers. If the room is spacious enough, you can place the dressing table against any wall. Otherwise you’ll have to optimize the space. Put it against the wall nearest to the bed to give your child enough space to freely move.
Your kid’s preferences should be factored into choosing the design. After all, he or she will be the one who will use the dresser for the next couple of years. It’s important to keep things organized once the room is fully furnished. Use the drawers only for important things like clothes or shoes. Don’t forget to leave a multi-purpose box on the corner for all the stuff that your child is supposed to pick up after. Children can be hesitant when it comes to doing chores, and a box to throw in the toys and trinkets is a godsend for them. Even though a lot of kids consider drawers as unnecessary evils, you’ll have to constantly point out to them that clothes shouldn’t be left on lumpy piles on the floor, a reminder that even you sometimes forget.
