Creating A Cosy Bedroom
When my husband and I moved into our new home we slept in the large front bedroom, but I wanted to relocate to the spare room at the back of the house , which is much sunnier. It was full of boxes so it took me some time to convince my husband that it was worth the effort . How did we get started? Well, I came across a lovely wallpaper in a magazine . It was a modern tree design, and I felt it brought the view from the bedroom window into the house. I really liked the soft colours and worked the rest of the scheme around it . Lack of storage was a huge issue so we found the experts for the job who were able to design and fit wardrobes to span one complete wall. The sliding doors do not encroach on the space and it has certainly been a wonderful investment . To keep on budget I updated my old pine furniture. I rubbed down the wood with sandpaper, then painted on two coats of oil-based eggshell in a pale grey to tone with the wallpaper . I placed teaming cushions on the bed in different sizes, textures and neutral shades which added interest and gave the room a luxury feel. Placing a throw on top of the quilt gave the bed a cosy, inviting look . As I could not find any tall, narrow bedside units I had some made. They are just 30cmx30cm and take up very little room. Although the room is very neutral, there is a richness to the scheme . I did not want to be too bland, so I added a lot of textures using linen, waffle and knits in pale colours to add subtle interest. To give the room the finishing touch I placed some beautiful scented candles in a variety of shades and combined different sizes and shapes to maximise the effect. The best ones I find are those made by Yankee candles – they also make a fantastic alternative – a reed diffuser. A slim, tall bookcase is perfect for displaying photos, candles, jars and other items without taking up too much room.
