SCRIPT Were going to look at a chimney here that another roofing contractor put this 3 tab roofing on here about 10 years ago. They decided the old counter flashing which goes in between the bricks and the mortar was worn out so they filled it in with tar and then they took this intersection which is supposed to be flashed and they filled it in with black tar and put a coating on it, see they just put all this coating on there, thinking that thats going to weatherize the chimney, but you can see here water can go right into the house, and it is, and also the black tar cracks in the heat. That water goes right inside creating long term damage to this structure. What we are going to do today is were going to re flash this chimney correctly. This is something that shouldve been done by the roofer. So what were going to do is take a grinder and were going to grind in to this mortar joint about an inch and we are going to take metal and put it in there and were going to re-mortar around the metal so we have metal that comes out and down, were going to cut all this out of here and put in step flashings with each row that goes underneath the shingle and up the wall, the counter flashing goes over the top of it. Thats a weatherized permanent re flash of a chimney, again it shouldve been done but the roofing company decided … Please help to answer the question about metal roof contractorMetal roofing on flat roof???

You can get a written opinion from a professional inspector. You'll have to pay for it, but their opinion on the need for repairs is practically gospel. Look here for starters:

I agree, you'd be better to look for other buyers at this point. You could sue… you can always sue, but it will be costly and time consuming to prove their home inspector was purposely trying to skew his estimate of your home's worth. Unless you know and can prove he's done the same thing with other buyer/sellers. Then a lawyer might have a larger ground of evidence to work with.
However, if this buyer returns and tries to offer a much lower bid, offer to take the advice of a third home inspector which both of you will agree on to be impartial. You split the cost, so he's not hired to protect the interests of either of you.

I’m a roof consultant, I have worked as an inspector for a manufacturer and am accredited through RCI. My expertise is in singleply design and installation- but I think I can help a little here too.
Hopefully this in an asphalt shingle or modified bitumen roof? If not, you just destroyed your roof. Just about every flashing cement or ‘Tar’ as people always seem to confuse it with, is utterly worthless as a ‘waterproofer’ or leak stopper. Flashing cements are designed to act as adhesives, they are intended to stick one thing to another. So dumping a bucket on your roof really hasn’t done anything of any lasing value. In addition, most flashing cements are asphaltic in nature, which chemically makes them very prone to what’s called UV degradation- or better put, the sun eats asphalt alive! Absolutely destroys it… Shingles have a coating of ceramic granules specifically to protect the asphalt, they reflect the UV away from the shingle protecting it and making it last longer. Without the granules, shingles get really hot, lose their dimensional stability, and begin the process of literally slowly disintegrating. In a way all you have done with your coating of flashing cement is speed up the process of your roof heating up and breaking down… I couldn’t estimate how long you have before you will need a total re-roof, but I can tell you, anywhere you put flashing cement will be an area that needs to be re-roofed.
I have seen cases where ‘patchwork’ like this has been done and has lasted for 3 years, I’ve also seen where its lasted 6 months… it depends on several factors, your exposure, the temperature, weather conditions, attic ventilation, etc.
I would recommend putting away some money, you are going to need a new roof. Take bids, interview several contractors- there are some out there right now who are slow and are very fairly priced… and just as a response to the person who posted saying you could get 50 years out of a bucket of Tar… No Way, No How, If you know of a bucket of goo that lasts 50 years I want to hear about it!

Hi, I don't think that your job title is the problem.
Right now it's just the wrong time to apply for a job at any construction site (recession).
Going by your english, I assume you are not an Indian, Pakistani or any Asian (pls. correct me if I am wrong). As a Westerner (if you are), you hardly wll not have any chance to get hired in the UAE as a worker (you are to expensive). These jobs are taking by the Nationals mentioned above. From a Westerner going on employment to the Middle East mostly a degree is required.
IF you are an American, check job openings with Black Water, KBR etc. They require a security check which other Nationalities will not pass. Getting hired in Iraq or Afghanistan, you will make a much better salary than in the UAE.

It's a very simple question dear. Let us denote the work of roofing the house by R. The homeowner takes (say) M days to do this work, so her 1 day's work is R/M. (I'm using M, and not 10, since you want a formula, not an answer.)
Similarly, if the professional roofer can complete this work in N days, the roofer's 1 day's work is R/N.
If they work together, the work done per day will be R/M + R/N. Thus, if they complete the work in T days, the total work done in T days by them will be T*(R/M + R/N), i.e., T*R*(1/M + 1/N).
But this work done is R only, so we equate the term we obtained above to R, thus:
T*R*(1/M + 1/N) = R
i.e., T = 1 / (1/M + 1/N) … (This is the required formula)
For your case, M = 10 and N = 4, so the answer will be:
T = 1 / (1/10 + 1/4)
= 1 / (0.1 + 0.25)
= 1 / (0.35)
= 3 (approximately)
See, even if you just guess the answer, think logically. The roofer alone does the work in 4 days; so if the homeowner also helps the roofer, the number of days required should be obviously less than 4. Isn't it? So any guess greater than 4 would be wrong.

OK, Rubber is a good Short-term solution. But it fails to address your issue properly.
Grinding into your base (stone) is NEVER a good solution.
SEALING and overlapping a good aluminum around your base is the ONLY way to go. DO NOT GRIND anything.
