More Housing Is Needed For People
Population growth is outstripping available housing in Australia and other countries around the globe causing the growth of a homeless society. As property values increase so do the market rental fees, making rental accommodation for some an impossibility. Young people are staying at home longer in order to save for their own home and couples are putting off starting a family until they have bought a home. More people are living with relations and on the street than ever before. Even with public housing there doesn’t seem to be enough affordable housing available for the amount of people that need it.
Property management Sydney agencies are regularly approached by people who are looking to rent residential premises. Most of them are fortunate enough to be able to pay the required rental fee, but for the others who cannot, life can be a struggle. This is especially so if there are children involved and can be heartbreaking and stressful for the parents. News reports of families living in their car are shocking to viewers who cannot believe this is actually happening in our country. Many charities help to care for homeless people but are also running out of funds and space, which shows how desperate the situation is becoming.
A new government scheme has been created to address this shortfall by offering real estate Double Bay developers incentives to build more housing that is affordable for those with low incomes. Those developers who are willing to provide rental premises that are 20% lower than market rentals, are offered valuable incentives by the government, a measure that will help to stem the flow of homeless people. The benefits of making accommodation affordable are seen in the growth of the local business economy which in turn helps to create local employment. Families that have low cost rental accommodation will be better able to cope with educational and other expenses involved in raising children.
A scheme of this nature has been long overdue, but the community warmly welcomes it and the government is to be congratulated in its creation of the project. With 100,000 new affordable homes being the target by the end of the next few years we have reason to hope for the best. Property developers will benefit through grants offered in return for making affordable housing available and the battlers in our communities will have a little less pressure in their lives. If the scheme is a resounding a success, and there are no more homeless people in dire need, we will indeed be able to win back the title of “the lucky country.”
