OBITUARY: Curtis Wayne Proffitt

Curtis Wayne Proffitt, 55, of South Haven, died Jun 2, 2011 during South Haven as a outcome of a motorcycle accident. Services will be during 3 p.m. Friday during a United Methodist Church in Sterling, with Rev. Marvin Ewertt officiating. Burial will be during Sterling Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday during Birzer Funeral Home in Sterling. The box will sojourn closed.

Curtis was innate Dec. 18, 1955 in Sterling, a son of Charles Wayne and Ruth Elaine Flessner Proffitt. He was a proprietor of Wellington for 4 years, before of Sterling, Alden, El Dorado and South Haven. He was a owners of a former Curt’s Auto Supply in Sterling; store manager during O’Reilly’s; Creek Stone during Arkansas City; and Calmar in Winfield. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1973. He grew adult in a Alden United Methodist Church and was a member of a American Bikers Association, Kansas Motorcycle Association and American Legion El Dorado Chapter.

He was married on Jan. 26, 1974 to Rose Mary Bane in Sterling. She preceded him in genocide on Jun 14, 2006. He afterwards was married to Sandra Smith on Oct. 15, 2008.

Survivors include: wife, Sandra of a home; 6 sons, Frank Proffitt of El Dorado, James Proffitt of Great Bend, Gene Center of Wichita, Charlie Osbourn of Augusta, Aaron Givens of El Paso, Texas, and Chris Ball of Wellington; 5 daughters, Ruth Ann Proffitt of Wellington, Hannah Proffitt of Great Bend, Erica Tamez of Wichita, Velma Martinez of Borger, Texas, and Angela Richardson of Sedgwick; sister, Vickie Davis; 68 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in genocide by his relatives and a son, Chad Osbourn.

Memorials might be done to Fallen Heroes Fund or Toys for Tots in caring of Birzer Funeral Home.
