Pedal to the Metal Roofing Contractor

Pedal to the Metal Roofing Contractor

If you live in a house where the roof always leaks after a stormy day, you might need to consider seeking a metal roofing contractor for a fix. There are many specialties when steel is applied to the coat. The element is usually light weight if you would like the tiles for the roof instead of the floorboards. The portability of this material is also a good feature which you are able to enjoy in case you decide to do the maintenance works yourself.

The durability of his material is unquestionable as commercial grade metal roofing contractor would assure that the resistance in this material is up-to-par for 50 to 100 years. Usually copper and zinc are guaranteed for a lifetime’s quality.

The lower-grades however may face a risk of gradual decay within 7 to 8 eights such as asphalt shingles type which is most commonly used today.

The high strength to weight ratio is commendable with the use of steel which is why most large buildings prefer this material. The material is perfect to protect the building from hail and snow. The shiny surface cannot retain the flakes therefore the building is somewhat icicle-free.

Not only that, the material is recyclable and it is recommended that you recycle the material after use. Aluminum is the most recycled substance of this substance and it is easy for anyone to fix it on.

There are many disadvantages which include thermal movement which causes the substance to contract and shrink. The worst part of it all is the horrible noise during the process. The movement could also cause curved shapes in the body. However in modern times, there is special coating which measures the heat quantity which it will help retain and release.

However steel can contribute to additional heat reflection outside the building in tropical temperature. Choose this type of coverage only when the temperatures are permissive.

I called him asking for it and he said that i wouldnt need it. Why would he do this and i think i do need it for my warranty? What can i do to get it back?

Warranties on roofing materials are rarely used, for several reasons:
    1. The bulk of the cost is in labor, rather than materials.
    2. Manufacturers only cover defective materials, and the vast majority of problems with your roof are caused by incorrect installation, inappropriate materials given your location, "acts of God", etc.
    3. Even if you do determine that you have defective materials, the warranty is typically pro-rated after a few years, so that after 10 years you'd only get a percentage of the amount you had originally spent.

It is much more important to get a guarantee from the roofing contractor that you hired.

Finally, although proof of purchase is helpful, it isn't usually required by manufacturers. Most roofing materials include a serial number or other method of identification, and this should be adequate should you wish to invoke the warranty. This article provides more detail: http://www.roofery.com/shingles/warranty.html.

The restaurant industry has slip resistant shoes that work very well in greasy conditions. But they won't have steel toes or shanks.

And I actually found some work boots that advertise themselves as slip resistant…

I agree with badjura. There should be no mystery in installing. Looks simple in the video but I believe badjura and will never buy this since there are no testimonials.

A metal roof is not installed by a plumber, it would be installed by a roofer or a sheet metal worker.

A metal roof is not a good idea. Ponding water will leak through the seams even if they are soldered because expansion and contraction will open up the seams. Ponding water will also cause the steel roof to rust prematurely.

A better option is a rubber membrane roof. Warranties as long as 40 years are available. A reputable roofing contractor will make quick work of the roof job and be around for any problems that may develop … in other words, they will be around to take care of any warranty problems.

Good luck with your roofing project.

    Hi Shane,

Do you have pictures of your roof? The part when metal was removed and water damage.

We never had any problems with our roof installations and this systems has been around since 1948 – it obviously works, otherwise it would not be produced for such a long time – 61 years now.

My best guess is that you got bad installers putting your roof up. It does not matter how good a product is, if it is installed incorrectly. Still, I honestly believe this is the best designed metal roof.

Management does not want to pay adequately and installers skip on important things.

This is not always the case but I know for a fact, this happens and often at homeowners expense.

Still, you should not call the product crap. It is a good product. You just got bad installers .

We are an independent metal roofing contractor and for us, quality is the main priority. Thats why NONE of our roofs leak, and ALL my customers are happy with products and services. You can ask them!

Hcl eats metal. If there were holes in the enamel the acid when applied would attack the roofing. The damage would be immediate and obvious.

Hcl becomes diluted (weaker) when you add water. If the contractor was careful to rinse well and then you had three days of rain it's hard to imagine any acid residue could have remained or done any damage.

You might buy one piece of roofing and duplicate the cleaning and flushing process to see if it damages the metal. This could provide some insights.

    good luck.

There are so many variables here that anything we say will only be a guess. The condition of your roof, the whole roof, not just the shingles, how many layers of shingles are on the roof right now, what the local codes require, most will allow two layers of shingles but not three. When I have a situation like this, I call the local building inspector and ask him/her, after all they are the ones that will have the final say. The inspectors in my area don't mind stopping by and giving their opinion.

I’ve ripped off 1 roof, and every shingle had leaked. if it wasnt for the underlay, and the seccond layer of shingles underneath, there would have definately been more damage. They had a waranty, but were simply unsatisfied and paid for a new ashphault roof, rather than getting a new free interlock roof… Now what does that tell ya? Anyone I know that has dealt with these interlocks, all claim the same thing, Not to mention the aluminum nails get left behind with the magnet.

  13. By Anonymous on Sep 4, 2010

PS, who installed your metal roof, and where is it? I’m sure there is a reason why your roof leaked, aside from “it’s a bad roof”. There was an installation error(s) that lead to leaks.

I’m sorry to hear you went through all these hassles.

GENERALLY IT WOULD BE BETWEEN 2-3X THE COST OF A SHINGLE ROOF. THERE ARE VARIABLES, NEW CONST VS A REROOF, PITCH, QUAIITY AND DESIGN STYLE OF ROOFING MATERIALS. CHECK MUELLER INC IF IN YOUR AREA

  15. By Anonymous on Sep 4, 2010

Dude – interlock is a manufacturer / installer of SIMILAR roofing product. Their main problem is not the product – faulty installations. I know interlock well and know people working there.

As I said, it is the bad installation that makes you say “its crap”.
The way they run installation crews here in MA would be completely different from other parts of US and Canada. Here they have good and bad installers, but the problem is the management / installer relations and it all comes down to money

I am not sure who installed it, nor do I have any pictures. I install shingles, mostly architectual and 3 tab. The shingles that we removed were hexagon shapes, and the top 3 sides all had some sort of mildew under the interlocking lips.
