Pressure Washing Tips To Do It Right
Hiring professionals for pressure washing is indeed advisable but it won’t do harm if you would like to do it yourself especially if you are physically capable of completing the task. Moreover, aside from physical strength, it is also crucial that you are well knowledgeable about the necessary steps to do the work properly. Yet there are actually some techniques in pressure cleaning, the basics are indeed very easy yet very helpful.
If it is your first time to use a pressure washer, be certain that you have taken the time to read the instructions that came with it and follow what it says especially in preparing the equipment. There is an electric pressure washer and there is also gas powered. If you are using electric, make sure it is has the ground fault circuit interrupter to protect yourself from possible electrical shocks. If you are using the gas powered, make sure that the motor is turned off while filling the fuel tank. Next, practice handling the wand for a few minutes, it is better to use both hands for an easier control. Try with a lower pressure first then increase it gradually depending on how much pressure is needed to clean the surface. This is very important because if the pressure is too strong, it can possibly remove loose paint or scratch the surface such as wood and would even cost you more for repairs. Once you are comfortable in controlling the wand and you have set the right pressure then you can start to do the cleaning.
How and where you aim your wand depends on what you are cleaning. If you are cleaning a wall, then you have to start from the top to the bottom, spraying horizontally. If you start at the bottom and reach to upper part the dirt and water will drip downwards which will make the lower part dirty again. Also remember that you should not aim directly into cracks or gaps because the water or cleaning solution might cause damage within. Moreover, do not aim directly at any fragile materials because the pressure will surely make them shatter. In addition, stay clear of any electrical outlet or device because accidentally spraying on them can cause short circuit. Remember that when you are pressure cleaning it’s not like watering the plants with a garden hose, so do not play with it by spraying on people because the impact can hurt them.
Pressure cleaning can still reach high and elevated surfaces but still that doesn’t imply that you must use a ladder becaue the pressure that goes out from the wand that you are controlling can cause you to lose your balance. But worry no more because pressure cleaners has an extendable wand that can reach areas as high as 20-24 feet which is very appropriate in cleaning 2 to 3-story building, gutter and roof cleaning.
Lastly, if you happened to face any problems while on the progression of pressure cleaning, the first thing you must do is to shut down the equipment. It is not advisable for you to attempt in fixing the damage on the wand or on the hose if the pressure or the machine is still on. If the damage needs major repairs, don’t be hesitant to contact a professional to prevent the damages from getting worst. Finally, keep practicing the safety and precautions regularly more than anything else.
