Please help to answer the question about roof repair contractormy contractor won't finish my home repairs without full payment?
I am having my roof, fence and gutters repaired. I payed 50% up front and per contract 50% is due after ALL the work is complete. Now they are telling me they won't finish my work w/o the remainder of the money. I am not paying them until the work is complete. They are threatening to send me to court and take a lein out on my house. They appear to obviously be in breach of our contract but they won't back down Please Help !

On the average, it will be the cost of materials times two. If you are going to have labor intensive work sone such as drywall or painting it is done by the square foot. If it is a roof, it is done by the square which is 10 feet by 10 feet, or a total of 100 square feet. Typically you are better off with a full quote than you are with an hourly one. Hopet his helps.

Check businesses listed in ad section of local newspaper. Ask neighbors, business owners for suggestions.

Word of mouth is the best source. Ask your friends and neighbors. Or, if you contact someone from the phone book or an adv, ask for references.

Word of mouth is your biggest friend. Have you a builders association to join? Other trades can recommend other trades. Is there a BNI close by? It s a business network that tries to to business within their own network. Join any Lions or Kiwanis clubs and stay fairly active.. GL

My opinion is that there are probably both good and bad contractors in Tucson, AZ … just like in any other part of the country. If you are looking for a remodeling contractor, you might try your local chapter of the "National Association of Homebuilders". Their "Registered Remodeler" program screens members in an attempt to ensure that they are qualified and professional. They will provide you a list of member contractors that work in your area.

Good luck with your remodeling projects.
