Shipping Containers: Your Private Self-Storage Solution
I am not a pack-rat.
Or at the very least I didn’t THINK I used to be a pack-rat.
That’s till my family and I determined to move out of the home where we spent the past six years.
There are four of us total – myself, my husband and 2 boys. Between us, we shared a 5 bedroom home, but made a decision to move into a 4 bedroom place across town.
Surveying all our effects ahead, I did not realise just how much stuff we had accumulated over time. There were boxes of youngsters ‘ play toys that were sitting in our cellar, racks of attire we hadn’t worn in years, camping gear that was gathering dust in the attic, and heaps more things that we had just about forgotten about.
While one piece of my conscious was saying to just dispose of it all and drop it off at the nearest donation box, I just couldn’t do it.
Sure, there were some things that we had not used in a few years, but there’s always an opportunity that we are going to need it in the future. Besides, we still had to decide out what to do with the things we definitely wanted to keep – memories like old albums, the vintage furniture my parents gave us and the kid’s drawings.
One day while I was talking to a friend, she recommended I investigate getting one of those self storage shipping boxes. Bingo! It was perfect!
So I called up the nearest shipping container hire company and found out just how straightforward it was. I did not realise it initially, but they’ll bring the container to your home and transport it to their storage location. All I had to do was put all my belongings into the boxcar and they took care of the rest. It was great not being forced to stress about loading a van and driving it myself. It was only one less thing on the moving “to-do” list.
We did not have to get rid of our things just because we did not have room in our new home. Plus, there was so much room in there that we had space left over.
In reality my husband is considering buying a convertible and storing it in our container. The boxes are strong and safe, so he will not have to fret about anyone messing with his new toy or it getting spoilt by the rain.
So I admit, I’d be a little bit of a pack-rat. I might keep things for many years. I might have things I do not actually use each and every day.
But hey, don’t we all have a little bit of a pack-rat in us?
At least now I’ve found a solution!
