Take Care of Roof Repairs Sooner Rather Than Later

When it’s starting to seem like you might need roof repairs, it is not the time to put it off or try to do it yourself if you don’t have any real expertise.  And when your roof has become old or damaged, you need to make roof replacement a top priority.  There is no underestimating the importance of the roof – it is like the perpetual umbrella of the home through every season and every weather condition. This isn’t the kind of home improvement project you can just put off.  The structural integrity of your home depends on it.

There are a few telltale signs that it’s time to call the roofing contractors to see about repairing or replacing your roof.  Sometimes it will be obvious that you need a roof replacement because there has been catastrophic storm damage or there are gaping holes where the light can shine right in.  But roof replacements may also be necessary when numerous shingles have gone missing or when the attic has started to leak.  At the very least these are signs that roof repairs are in order.

There are other signs of roof damage that are harder to notice, like curling shingles.  When the shingles start to curl it means they are starting to fail; roof replacement will be soon to follow.  You may also need to call the roofing contractors when you notice ceiling stains and wet spots in your attic, which are both signs that your roof needs to be replaced sooner rather than later.  Roof replacements are also typically necessary when there are blocked gutters and missing flashing, because these both keep the roof from functioning properly. 

Whether you just need some simple roof repairs or you have to replace the whole thing, it’s always better to take care of it sooner rather than later.  The problem will definitely not go away, but if you ignore it things will probably just get worse.  So call your local roofing contractors as soon as possible if you’ve noticed any of these telltale signs.

    Check out any prospective contractors references and ask for a certificate of insurance proving that they carry liability and workers compensation insurance. Do not give your contractor a large downpayment … no more than 10%, with the balance due upon completion.

    i would think if you had damage to your roof that would be covered by insurance you would have already contacted your insurance company. the contractor can look at the roof, assess the damage and give an estimate. filing a claim is your responsibiity (if it's your house). in most cases, repairs from general wear and tear are not covered by homeowners insurance. contact your insurance company yourself to find out if the repairs will be covered before committing to anything with a contractor.

    Go ahead…it started what? leaking again. You could go up into the attic (loft) and look for the dripping while a friend uses a hose on the roof. Because it was roofed doesn't mean it was roofed right.
    Call the contractor back and let him know right away.

    Contact the "Contractor's State License Board". The board will investigate a complaint such as this. Obviously, the work wasn't done properly or there would be no leak ! The contract should be for a "scope of work". That would make the contractor liable. He cannot deny responsibility if the roofer was paid by him.

    I think brother deserves a huge hug and a thank you from sis! He was taking care of his sister because most of these guys will not do that! Oh, there might be a couple but I sure as heck haven't found them.

    The drip edge should match the fascia and soffit. It's available in all of the colors that the F&S come in, so there's no excuse for not using it. White drip edge with brown fascia looks terrible, as you can see. Hope this helps.
