Why You Should Always Call A Professional To Fell A Tree
Coming from a big, proud Italian familia, I have been brought up to know that we are able to do everything.
And I mean everything.
Sicilians are natural painters, handymen, tilers and mechanics. When asked where they learned the finer points of their numerous vocations you may sometimes strain to hear a mumbled, indistinguishable answer that goes along the lines of ‘you seee I’m from Italia, I learn back in Italy ‘, followed by a quick change of topic.
for the familia, the cars and the home whitegoods and hardware, the technical training passed down by my relatives frequently results in something melting down, something damaged beyond repair, or more recently indescribable destruction to the car automobile.
It is a Saturday arvo at our old fashioned Italian home on the Central Coast, and for weeks my Grandfather and Godfather had been gazing at the tree in the rear yard.
Amidst complaints of how it impedes the sunlight from the flower patch, drops too many branches for my Grandmother to clean up and attracts annoying insects and animals, they heeded it was time for the tree to be removed.
In any other scenario perhaps it’d be a mission that my Grandfather and Uncles should do. But the indisputable fact was, the tree in question was a 30 foot Oak tree, which had been rooted for over 50 years. My Nan, Mamma and Father attempted in vain to dissuade the cavalier branch bandits from attempting their tree slashing assignment, however trying to persuade a Wog to call in some other person to do the job is admitting weakness, something my folks looked incapable of doing.
So out came the ropes, the manual saws and the gloves. For half a day they violated that tree, till the point at which it was finally prepared to fall to earth. The remainder of us sat inside, preparing for the worst.
The three amigos got ready on the side of the tree, making ready to tear the tree away the fence as it slid. What they did not foresee was the wood disintegrating before they could even begin. We looked on horrified as the tree slid, first crashing the fence, and eventually crashing on the roof of my Grandad’s much prized Alfa Romeo sedan. I haven’t heard as many superlatives as I did that morning. Not only did we lose a fence and a car, but we just about lost part of the roof and compromised the safety of our family.
From that day on, my relatives have been much more open to calling in the experts to help, particularly when it comes to tree removal. They have come to learn there are a few things you can’t do yourself, and tree removal, pruning and felling are best left to the arborists.
As we witnessed, tree removal can be a really hard job, and can frequently cause headaches due to council laws, safety concerns and ethical recycling of trees.
Why compromise your safety and spend several hours worrying when you can get somebody else to come in and do the work for you?
